Testimonials

Drew Eubanks

Forward, San Antonio Spurs

“I’ve had the best stretch of my career in my short 3 years of being in the NBA this April, and I honestly and truly think it’s because of Billy’s pregame meditation exercises.”

Alexa Hardick

Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach, Moscow High School

"Billy’s meditation program was a game changer for my basketball program. My student-athletes were more relaxed and focused at practices after meditating. Additionally, many of them said it helped them with handling the stresses of school and a social life."

Drew LaComb

Head Coach, Regis University Baseball

"As coaches we talk about the Mental Game a lot with our players, but don't always provide the resources for them to practice it and get better at it. Billy is doing this for our team."

Brady Bergeson

Head Coach, Regis University Men's Basketball

"What % of the game is mental? I subscribe to the theory that if we are going to spend all of this time & effort physically training our players, it only makes sense to mentally train as well. This is our tool."

Andy Beyene

Outfielder, Regis University Baseball

"Mindfulness has not only helped me regain my love and desire to compete, but has also aided me in becoming a much more attentive and aware person off the field. I can't thank Billy enough for the countless amount of material and sessions he has provided for me, and I highly recommend his practice to anyone looking to take a definitive step forward in their athletic or professional career."

Roberto Vercellino

Forward, Regis University Men's Basketball

"Billy’s meditation for athletes program was an opportunity to expand and enrich my experience as a college athlete beyond the traditional set of dimensions that define sport. Even more than that, Billy’s teachings introduced me to ideas and practices I now consider essential to me and to my life."

Tomas Auruskevicius

Guard, Regis University

"Billy Hansen introduced me to mindfulness meditation, a valuable practice that’s enhanced my life in numerous ways. The meditation sessions he led before basketball games prepared the team for competition, allowing us to be more present and composed, and eventually helping us win the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship in Regis University history. I’m convinced that Billy was a key component to our success both on and off the court."

Brady Parris

Guard, University of Oregon

“Mindfulness has changed from a distant concept I never thought to try, to a habit I practice every day. Billy will shift your perspective and unlock the natural superpower that is your human mind.”

Why Meditation for Athletes?

  • Relaxed Focus

Athletes who commit to a meditation practice can expect to be more sustainably focused, and better able to handle stress, pressure and adversity.

  • Performance & Well Being

Consistent mental training helps athletes play better and feel better in intense competition, and they become less susceptible to mental health issues like anxiety and depression.

  • Simple, Consistent Practice

With this program, an athlete or a coach with a busy, complex schedule need only "press play" once a day for a short, simple, and effective guided meditation, tailored to the relevant athletic context.

Meditation coach for athletes - I teach a course at Regis University called Mindfulness for Athletes, and I’m the meditation coach for the Regis men’s basketball and baseball teams. I’ve worked with athletes at all levels, from high school to the NBA.

Disclaimers

1. For athletes who are struggling with debilitating anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues, my first recommendation is to seek help from a therapist, sports psychologist, or other mental health professional. Working with a skilled therapist in college was tremendously valuable for me, both on and off the court. My hope is that this program can supplement (not replace) this kind of mental work. It’s also unfortunately true that many young people don’t have access to skilled therapists or sports psychologists. My program can hopefully be of some help to these young people.

2. The long-term practice of meditation becomes deeper than what I offer in my programs. Having been an athlete who struggled with anxiety and depression, and then experienced the athletic benefits of basic mindfulness and visualization practice, I’m uniquely qualified to teach these basic skills to other athletes. My goal is to help integrate contemplative training into sports, to help athletes make the most of their short careers, and also prepare them for happier, more fulfilling lives. My hope is that athletes who work with me eventually advance to a deeper path of meditation once their careers end. Regarding general meditation practice, I’m a student, not a teacher, and there are many teachers who are more qualified and skilled than I am. I can recommend resources to athletes who’ve left their sport, or to those who want to start a practice beyond the context of athletics.
